However, his grades are only average to slightly above average for most college students, so he won't be a doctor.

Many employers in the business world do not care so much as to what you majored in, but if you acctually graduated. Have him pick something he enjoys, so he'll stick with it. Also, I have read reports that say that those who study the libral arts have the widest options for jobs when they graduate.
