Problem with College & Scholarships...?

Asked by Ashley
I was accepted into my first choice college, but was not offered any scholarships or financial aid. No other school can offer me the same opportunities as this college, but I plan on becoming a journalist and will not have much money to pay off college loans. My dad (who is extremely conservative and feels it is his "duty" to pay for his children) said he will cover the cost of my education, but will be simultaneously paying my $40,000 tuition, my brother's $35,000 tuition, and my other brother's $30,000 tuition. I know he does not have the money for this, but have not found a single scholarship I am even elligble for! I have tried to convince him to let me take out the loans for my education, but he won't let me. I'm considering chagning schools simply because of the cost, but as I said I can't get the same opportunities anywhere else. Any suggestions? And please, do not recommend Fastweb or any related sites, they have proved useless so far. I wasn't offered ANY financial aid (loans included) and while some of you may not understand that, it happens. I've looked at local scholarships, I've looked at scholarships at my current school, I've looked at scholarships from my old high school, nothing applies to me. I'm not so much asking for where to find scholarships, the ones that apply to me I did not earn an that is all there is to it, I'm asking whether it's worth losing opportunities for a college that costs over $30,000 less. I'm already transfering from a community college, there are no more courses I can take for gen. ed. credit, and i want to take classes that pertain to my career at a real school.

i dont know if these will help or not, so i will just post all that i have on all i have found. there are government loans & grants and then there are private loans & scholarships. pass on the info to others who may be able to use it for their schooling as well. -------------------------------- try to aim for grants/scholarships more... they are not to be paid back. its confusing sometimes, but just keep applying. Scholarships usually have a 1 or 2 page application, and require an essay. Take your time with the essay, so yours stands out. every big (and small) company you see (manufacturer, orgs, corps and groups also) all have grants and scholarships they hand out like candy. Walmart, Kmart, Target, Coke, computer companies etc etc etc heres a link with a HUGE amount of some available. some you will need to copy and paste into a new window. also, fastweb (take the time to fill it in) will search databases and get back to you with a list of scholarships you qualify for. Also contact all mens, womens associations in your state, they almost always have grants & scholarships. What ever field you are going into, contact the orgs, associations etc for them; Also check with professional organizations related to your career interests, such as the American Bar Association or the American Medical Association. they also always have scholarships. Research and dig, call then write. Its all worth it. OVER apply; it doesnt hurt to have too many, and the extra funds can help with housing.
