How do kids in canada go to college??

Asked by tmacfan1121
i have heard that there is no formal college entrance exam in canada, so how do kids in canada go to college? is it hard for them to go to a top tier school in canada? like those who prep for SATs in US? if you know, how hard is it for a canadian high school graduate to attend schools like U. of Toronto and McGill? do they have to be like valedictorian or something?

i go to U of T. engineering. there arent any entrance exams. in highschool you take either unveristy geared courses or college geared courses. colleges are much much easier to get into then universities. when i applied to U of T they look at my top 6 grade 12 course grades and they require that you take particular courses such as calc, chem, bio, etc. depending on the program. At U of T you also have to subbit your extracurricular activities and you will be accepted based on your grades and extracurriculars. the average to get into the engineering program i am in was a 90% + grade 12 average. other programs (not engineering) will require you to have averages higher than usually 70 or 80%. I think depending on what you want to be if you have a 80% to mid 80% grade 12 average you could probably get into any university in canada, it is not very difficult. So you definitely do not need to be top of the class to get into U of T. its kind of sad Canada is like this, not having any top notch schools, buts thats how it is. i also applied to carelton and ryerson university (less reputable schools) and I got accepted to both within a week. U of T accepted me about 3-4 months after applying. Just to give you a feel for the differences between U of T/McGill and the other universities in Canada. Hope this helps!!
