Private Student Loans?

I've been looking into getting a private student loan to cover my school and living expenses while I'm attending college in Canada (I'm American). The problem I've been encountering is the co-signer requirements that most lenders have. My co-signer (and the only person willing to do so) is an American in Canada as well and has lived here for almost two years. Most lenders require the co-signer reside in the US for the past two years. Does anyone know of any lender that does not have this requirement or a way around it? All other requirements are filled and he has excellent credit in the US.
