Yes. They are. Some great names in education are opening their virtual doors to students. Cornell, Villanova, Boston University, to name a few. The most important thing to keep in mind is to find an accredited institution. If the school you attend, pay money to, spend time on is not accredited you are gambling with your career and your education. Fully Accredited institutions give your classes and your degree mobility. That is you can transfer your classes with little or no problem. Try to get accepted into a masters program with a degree from an unaccredited institution. Good luck! However, an accredited bachelor's degree travels very easily between states and between other accredited and, if you will, unaccredited, institutions. Don't be fooled by the labels. Regional Accreditation is the highest level of accreditation that a university can attain. National accreditation is lower than regional accreditation. National and state accreditation usually are grated to for profit colleges and institutions. Regional Accreditation: Don't let the name mislead you – regional accreditation is actually the highest level of accreditation a university can obtain. The six regional accrediting associations, each responsible for a specific geographic area in the country Include: Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools New England Association of Schools and Colleges North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Western Association of Schools and College Here's a good article about accreditation: www.my-it-career.com/career-support/Five-Steps-to-Figuring-Out-Accreditation.html And another one: www.my-it-career.com/career-support/Break-It-Down-Accreditation.html Here's a great site about IT Careers, but it has everything you need to know about online education, and a great selection of online schools: www.my-it-career.com/technology-degrees/index.html
