College admissions essay...need help!!!?

Asked by Rach
Ok I am not a spectacular student, I have a 2.95gpa and my SAT/ACT scores were average, so I need to write a kick a$$ essay. I am applying to about 8 schools and 6 require an essay, can I use the same essay for all 6? Also all of the schools that I am applying to have no topics for the essay, they say to write an essay pf 200-500 words on a topic of my choosing. I need a topic!!! I know that I slacked off freshman year and part of sophomore year but i kicked it into overdrive junior and "saved" my gpa. Do I explain why my grades suck? I also had family issues, and my grandfather died so it was hard on my family...Then my friend dropped out of school and I realized how she became a loser and I decided that there was no way in hell that I would be like that and did really well my junior year. Also I am going to be a first generation college student and part Middle Eastern. What should I do for a topic?

DO NOT write an essay about your grades. That sounds defensive and will not impress. What are you passionate about? What means a lot to you...more than anything else? What is something you enjoy very, very much? Write about one of those things. The essay is less to know how smart you are or how good a writer you are, but to find out what kind of human being you are...how will the school be better if you are a student there. Write about your passion and let your passion show through your writing. And yes, you can write the same essay for all six schools. Chances are they will never talk to each other about you. Word of warning: do not download something. Colleges will figure that one out...
