What is exactly the point of term papers in high school english? What do you think of students that drop out?

Term papers are a way to measure not only knowledge of a subject that the student has chosen to research but also demonstrates their ability to present this information and the method used to obtain the information. It isn't just a memorization of information for a test or quiz, it is more in-depth and shows more of the intellect and abilities of the student. And.... some teachers are required to assign them by local school administrations at certain grade levels to assure writing and research ability. About dropping out due to this; I feel that this is a poor long-term answer to a short-term situation. If you must write the term paper, do it. Do it on a topic that you are interested in, there has to be something in the subject you are studying that is at least mildly interesting to you :) Now, settle down and do the research. Don't procrastinate and stay organized. To drop out of high school or a class that requires a term paper shows a person that has character traits that will make life difficult later on. There are many things in life that we might find difficult or undesirable but we must still do them. Good luck and hang in there.
