College majors/minors...?

Asked by quiksilver_707
Looking for some inspiration. If you are attending, or did attend college: -What is/was your major? -How many times did you switch majors? -If you got your undergrad degree, what did you end up doing (what's your job)? -If you're currently attending college, what are your post-graduation plans? -Did you pick up any minors, and if so how have those helped you? I've spent 3 and 1/2 years in my current major -- Computer Engineering -- and have spent the entire time waiting for it to get better. Everybody has told me to stick it out because it was supposed to get better after you get through the nitty gritty (like math and physics courses). Well I got through it and it isn't fun or interesting to me still. I've thought about switching majors for years now, the thing holding me back is lack of something better. Quite literally, the only reason I'm still in this major is because I don't know what to switch to...and the "I've come this far, might as well finish" mentality I've got. Well all of your answers were helpful and exactly what I was looking for, so I'm just going to leave it to a vote for the "best answer" because I can't decide...

I went into college planning to be a Chemistry major. After taking one semester, I decided I hated it and tried to find something else. Next stop was Physics. I wasn't a big fan of that either. In fact, the only thing I really liked about both those subjects was the fact that I get to do math. I decided to become a math major! I decided to do a statistics emphasis because, as my professor says, "it's easy and I get paid well to do it!" Statistics interests me a lot and I'm glad I picked it. I'm also minoring in Economics because the two subjects go well together. After I graduate, I plan to work as an Actuary. It has a high rate of job satisfaction and is a very desirable career field. If you don't like what you're doing now, switch before it's too late! It's better to be in school longer and not have to suffer the rest of your life because you decided that you'd already gone too far to go back. My dad was a semester from graduating with a degree in computer science when he decided it just wasn't for him and he switched majors. He ended up being in school for awhile longer, but was a lot happier later on. What is your favorite part about Computer Engineering? Is it working on computer software? Maybe you can make a quick shift to computer science rather than computer engineering. Or maybe you'd like to go for something completely different? Now is a good time to reflect upon what you want with your life. You'll regret not making the change for the rest of your life. If Computer Engineering isn't for you, change! It can be annoying or difficult now, but you'll be glad you did it.
