Information to help you achieve your educational goals

Do you consider service academies a wasted education?

Asked by Enigma
I'm seeking an appointment to the Air Force Academy - regardless what you all answer to the question. However, I'm curious as to where you guys stand on service academies being a waste of an education. I'm seeking a degree in mechanical engineering if I get into the Academy, though I want to fly in the Air Force. Many people I know tell me that i'm wasting my time with the whole Academy path, but I sincerely disagree.

I disagree as well. You'll find that educational programs vary considerably from institution to institution. However, I would suggest that no one mechanical engineering program could be a waste, regardless of where you enroll in the courses. At the very least, you'll learn something. That prospect alone can't make any one program a disadvantage. I don't know anything about the military, but I do know that mechanical engineering is a versatile, useful field. I'm sure many applications exist in the air force. You have the right attitude as far as making your own decisions!
