Can I get to a good college?

Asked by KKGG
Can I get to a good college like UCLA or UC Berkeley with my grades and activities? I get more than a 4.0 grade point average, but not like a 4.6 or something on average. I play varsity tennis, football, and I do community service (Im in CSF). Can I get to the colleges I'm aiming for with this? If not, then could you give me some advice on how to increase my chances to get in? Also, could you get in college with good grades alone?

First off UCLA and UC Berkeley are almost impossible to get into if you are not a california resident. If you are not I think your odds will be slim, even with all that you have done. For any college, this is the order of importance for the admissions office: 1. HS transcript: take hard courses (AP, IB, honors, college prep, or whatever your school offers), and do well in them 2. Standardized test scores (SAT, SAT II, ACT, etc.) score high 3. (tie) Extracurriculars-show leadership 3. (tie) Essays-make them good 3. (tie) Teacher Recs-make them personal You need to be atleast solid in all of these to get into a good school like UCLA or UC Berkeley. Since I don't know you standardized test scores, I will tell you this. If you are a Cali resident you'll need a 1950 on your SAT or a 29 on your ACT. If you are not a Cali resident, 2200 and 32. I hope this helps. Good luck with your apps!
