Any opinions on the Dual MBA and MA in I/O Psychology at Alliant International University?

Asked by Vincent
I am interested in applying for this graduate program at Alliant and I was wondering if anyone is in this program, or has been in this program and can let me know what it's like. Also, for those working in the related fields, do you think obtaining a MBA along with my masters (I have my Psychology/Sociology degrees) will help me find better job placement and opportunities? Thanks!

I think it is a good idea. I wouldn't agree so much agree if you were to pose the question in reverse. The MBA seems more vital than the MA. But perhaps the MA will help you transition into the business curriculum easier since your background is in psych/sociology. This is not to disparage psych because I think the psych degree is like training a boxer to have a strong left jab in addition to a knockout right hook, which is your MBA. But face it, the MA alone isn't going to get you anywhere other than being paid a little more than a tutor for teaching at a community college or doing rote research tasks. Money talks these days, and no matter what field you enter, it's about the bottom line and future sustainability of the operation. This is true in healthcare including psych healthcare. I also think that understanding people and society will allow you to find efficiencies and profitability that are productive in the long term in addition to the short term. It will give you an ethical framework in addition to more pragmatic skills, one that will aid your decision-making, communications, and dealings with various groups and individuals. You'll find intersections between your prior studies and marketing/management/organizational psych, as I'm sure you know. Good luck. I think it is a wise choice.
