There really aren't any general requirements, as American universities are all very different from each other. The majority of schools will be looking at your grades and the difficulty of your classes, standardized test scores, essays, and extracurricular activities, but their expectations will vary. You should figure out what you want to study and what kind of environment you want to do it in, and research schools and their requirements based on that.
