Is Argosy University Legitimate?
I have been talking to an admission counselor from Argosy university and I feel that this person was really pressuring me to apply. I told her that cost was an issue for me and I would like for her to send me links to some scholarships that I could apply to. She insist that I apply for admission first. I was interested in pursuing a doctorate program and she kept stressing the program was very selective to get into (I wonder if that is really true). Anybody have any thoughts on this matter or experience with this school? 10 hours ago - 3 days left to answer.

What is your purpose in pursuing a doctorate? What do you hope to do with that doctorate? Because if you want it simply for personal satisfaction, a school like Argosy may be fine. But if you want it for professional use, it may not be good enough. Argosy is a very low ranked, non-competitive, for-profit school that doesn't have a great rep with employers or in academia. Please research how Argosy is viewed within your particular field, and if you can use a PhD from there in order to reach your goals, or if it's going to cause you problems rather than help you. At the PhD level, it's normal that you can't apply for assistantships and etc. until you apply to the program itself, or that you must do it concurrently. However, it's also normal that info be public, and that you can see the details on such programs before you apply. Also note that, at least in many fields, were you to do a standard, on campus PhD with a reputable university, you would be granted assistantships that would cover your tuition, at least in part. That's pretty normal, that PhD studies in some fields are entirely covered, and in others, covered in part. So if there is any way that you can do this doctorate in person, on a campus, at a reputable school, you really want to look into that, not only because going to a reputable program can help you find jobs afterwards, but also because they may well fund your studies.
