What does it take to get accepted into the University of Texas at Austin?

Asked by SimplyHXC
I have high hopes of going to UT. I'm 18, and I'm graduating from high school this year. I also attend my local community college. My school district is paying for the tuition so I can take classes there. I'm done with all my high school courses and I'm just waiting for graduation while attending my community college classes. My weighted GPA for high school is probably a little under 3.0, because I messed up 9th grade, and my weighted GPA for college is a 4.0. I have taken the ACTs twice, and I got a total score of 20 both times. Also, I am taking an Honors course at my community college. I have not taken the SATs. I want to major in Journalism. I live in Colorado right now, but I have tons of family in San Antonio. Is there any good scholarships out there for what I want to do? I'm depressed over the thought of how I would pay tuition. I heard you can prove residency by having a license, but I'm not sure if that works. Oh, I think I'm in the 20% of my class I'm not too sure. Help!

You can prove residency with a Texas license and the proof of a Texas address. That might be a problem if you want to transfer your credits as pre-reqs for other courses. They will see it is out of state, I am assuming anyway. Usually the TSI requires only ACT or SAT and things have changed a bit this fall, so I would look at their website for the specific requirements. If you go in as a transfer student they should be looking at your college credit GPA over your high school one. For all the info just look on their site! They should have links to scholarships under their fin aid section. Good luck!
