2.8 GPA 1980 SAT, Good Extra Curriculars?
I am about to enter my senior year in high school I will probably end up with a cumulative GPA of 2.8- 2.9 at the end of this year.My first two years of high school were pretty bad and I now have a 2.52 cumulative GPA after getting a 3.5 both semesters. I scored a 1980 on the SAT Reasoning 730 Crit. Reading, 590 math, and 660 Writing and am considering taking it again , mainly to improve my math score This will be my second year as a member of the Junior Statesmen of America, and I plan on joining the Eco club at my school. I have 400+ plus hours of volunteer service working as a junior camp counselor at El Dorado Park in Long Beach, CA I am active at my Church and I donate blood, so I hope that will help I live in Southern California and was considering applying for Azusa Pacific, UC Santa Cruz, Pace University, Howard University, UC Riverside, and Pepperdine University( where both my parents are alumni, but is very expensive) among other schools I know my GPA is going to be a major stumbling block when trying to get admitted to a good school, but I'd like to show the improvements I've made in the last year, as well as highlight my other strengths. Honestly, I would love to go somewhere like Berkley pr NYU(which I'm still going to apply to), but considering my position that seems like a longshot. ... freaking GPAs

If you think Pepperdine is expensive give NYU more thought/ It's super expensive and if you get in you're unlikely to get a cent in aid because of your grades. OK, some bad news. You need a minimum UC weighted GPA to be accepted at any UC. They also don't give a boost to minorities. You should look into whether you can apply by examination only, which is where they only look at your scores. This might work for Riverside but it sure ain't working at Berkeley. The good news is if you're black, you'll get a boost at private colleges. Pepperdine would hate to turn down a black double legacy so if you can make it work financially, with a good application I'd say that's your best shot at a good college. If you don't make it in this year a great senior year and a year at another college doing well should make you a shoo in. Honestly, I think you're best chance at going to a good college may well mean transferring which is really no big deal.
