Asked by paulglasgow7
Currently getting my Associates at Bevill State Community College In Computer Science. Will be transfering in the fall of 2009 to a 4 year university. Need help deciding which is best. My narrowed choices are University of Alabama in Huntsiville, Athens State University, Troy University, University of South Alabama, and University of Alabama. If anyone has attended these universities or know any info on them I would appreciate any info you could give me. Thank You

I'm a Computer Science student in Alabama, and I've either researched and/or visited most of those schools you listed. The University of Alabama in Huntsville was actually my first choice when I was trying to decide where to go to school, so it's one of the one's I majorly researched. The college seems more technology major oriented, and it seems to have an excellent Computer Science program. Plus, by going there, you might have the opportunity for some great internships (think NASA). I have friends that go to the University of South Alabama, and I've heard that the school is working on building up their Computer Science department. It's suppposed to be really good. The campus community at South is close knit, and the campus itself is pretty nice. I've visited Troy and the University of Alabama, but I don't really know anything about their Computer Science departments. Both, however, have beautiful campuses. Also, UA, is one of the state's larger colleges, so it has a ton of student activities (not to mention Bama football!). You might also want to consider UAB. The Computer Science department at UAB is accredited, and the computer class sizes are fairly small (usually around 15 per class). There are also some pretty good interships available since the campus is located in the middle of Birmingham. I suggest visiting the websites of each of these schools and researching what classes each school offers. And please talk to an advisor at whichever school you are planning to transfer to in order to make sure that you are taking the right classes at Bevill (and to make sure that they will transfer).
