Is it possible to transfer from Biola to UCSD?
I am an incoming freshman to Biola University, but unfortunately the money is pretty pricey and wanted to know if it's possible to transfer to UCI, UCSD, or UCLA from a private school like Biola University. I was planning to stay there for maybe two years and get my GE's done and try transfering. (Biola is a semester system). But the thing is I'm already going to Biola. so yeah But it's still possible and do people know anyone that this had happened before?

I had a friend who did the exact opposite. But in general, it is much more difficult to transfer to UCSD from Biola because they give preference to CA community college (CCC) students. In fact, most CCC students transfer using something called transfer admission guarantee (TAG). Under that agreement, you have to complete 60 semester units worth of GEs and maintain a 2.8 GPA. As the name says, you are guaranteed admission if you satisfy the agreement. Another advantage to TAG is that they allow middle of the school year transfers unlike the regular applicants who can only apply only once a year. A CCC would be a much cheaper option also. (Speak to a participating CCC for more info.) School hasn't started yet so you may be able to withdraw completely from Biola. This would be a big decision but it would be a lot less messier than switching over to a CCC after a semester or two. The downside to CCC is that you miss out on the school life. I go to Biola to use their tracks and it seems like their students are enjoying themselves. I never see anyone alone. At a CCC, most people are commuters and there are hardly any fun things going on. Also if you don't keep up the grades, you might go no where, although if you did the same thing at Biola, the same thing can be said. I guess you can also stay at Biola and try to transfer after two years. UCs in general do not offer lower-classman transfers (less than 60 units). Biola is pricey though. But you should explore all the options before making the final decision. You may even want to call admissions office at UCSD and find out how many non-CCC students they admit per year. But the last I've heard, it was a low number. What kind of student are you? Do you think you can get As and Bs in college? If you are going to struggle at a CCC, maybe staying at Biola is safer idea. But it all comes down to how bad you want it. I believe they do let you replace up to 4 bad grades (C- or lower) for TAG GPA calculation. It really comes down to staying focused and making the commitment for two years. That means going out less and studying more.
