Questions about Bob Jones University & Homeschooling?
I have homeschooled my children under this cirr. for 2 yrs. Recently I have found out the Bob Jones was under scrunity in 2000 by G. Bush for a law that the college had an inter racial ban & discriminated against Catholics ( the ban was removed in 2000). It was upsetting to me so I looked up more about the school & found out that in yrs past they would not allow african americans in their school & dating inter racially was not allowed. They cliam to be a christ centered college! Anyway I wrote a letter and forwarded it to the Pres. of the school demanding my money back for h.s. cirriculum & told them that it was upsetting to me that I taught my kids under racist & un biblical leadership (although it happened yrs ago but under the same family leadership). All I want to know is was I in the wrong to do that & am I getting to worked up? I am am an interracially married christian. please give me advice! thanks

Well, I can definitely see why you are concerned. I don't agree with past BJU controversial policies, but I don't want to make any of their mistakes the one unforgivable sin either. They've corrected their policies, and I'm willing to move on. As far as I can tell, their curriculum is very Biblically based and very solid, so I hate to not allow myself or my children the freedom to use BJUP materials in our homeschool just because they were messed up on some issues in the past. I sure would hate for my past sins to be the reference by which I'm currently judged. I really like a lot of the BJUP curriculum, so I think for me to take a stand against them by refusing to ever again use any of their materials would be more of a punishment to me than to them. So, I guess my "advice" would be to forgive them either way. I know it's a shock to find all of this out after two years of using their curriculum, but it's still your responsibility as a Christian to forgive them. They seem to have repented and corrected their mistakes. If you really like their curriculum, continue to use it. If you can find something else that you like and would feel better about using, then do that. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best.
