I'm doing an AYA education major at Bowling Green State University in chemistry. I ultimately want to teach chemistry. I really want to stay in Northwest Ohio once I finish in 2011. Would it help to take life sciences to ensure a job here? Also, does anyone know if science jobs are easy to get in this area, specifically around Bowling Green, Perrysburg, Findlay, etc.? Thats what I've been told in classes, but I don't know how accurate their claims are.

I can answer the second part of your question. If I understand correctly secondary science teachers should have a very good chance of finding a job anywhere in the US.
