Which are the best universities for transfer students that want to transfer?
I am trying to find the right school to transfer, I am in a community college, have done 3 complete semesters and I am taking a summer class. I want to transwer by Fall 08. My GPA right now sucks (1..44) but by the end of the summer class (retaking a class passed with a D) it will be 2.0 if I get an A and it seems that I'm going to get it, but by the end of this Fall since I am retaking the two other D passsed classes and 2 more, I expect to have a 3.0 GPA, I am really commited so I know I will do it. I already have two universitites seriously in my mind (Brigham Young University, Idaho and Utah campus) but I want more options. Please help, I live in Maryland and I'd like an out of state school, don't really care about campus size. I have NOT declared major yet... well, I did the other day for Biochemistry but I am not sure yet. Hmm... price is an issue too, I don't want a 25-40 K yearly school neither.

I'm assuming that you're Mormon, since you listed BYU as your choices. Honestly, with a GPA as low as you have, BYU or BYU-Idaho might be your best options. Students from Utah must have extremely high GPAs to get into those schools, but because you are out-of-state they will let that slide quite a bit. You will also get lower tuition for being LDS. However, if you are serious about your biochemistry major and can bump your GPA up, you will have more options. Many places offer scholarships for women in science fields because they are so under-represented. According to US News and World Report, the best schools for that major are UC-Berkley, MIT, and Harvard. I also know that Utah State University has a good biochemistry program [the school is known worldwide for their science programs]. Good luck!
