Ranto please help.....?
I live in nyc (brooklyn), and unfortunately had to start at a community college, however so far I have done fairly well (3.8) after my first year, I was just wondering if you could reccomend any top schools to transfer to that would give me a shot at a decent (possibly top 25-50) law school or m.b.a program. I don't mind paying out of state tuition if you think it will help me. possibly Rutgers or a SUNY? or am i pretty much done? Thank you

I'm not Ranto, but if you don't mind other people answering... :winks: Your strong community college is going to be very much in your favor. I don't know how you did in high school, or what your SATs were like, but the fact that you got a 3.8 at cc will be very influential in a university's admissions decision. If you have references to support your academic potential - for example, from some cc professors - that will also help. And write a convincing essay. If you went to school at Rutgers or one of the top SUNYs - Stony Brook or Binghamton, for example, rather than Old Westbury - and did well there, you absolutely could get into a top MBA or JD program, if your GMAT/LSAT was also strong. Your having gone to community college first will not hurt you at all. Your goal in your transfer is to try to get into the strongest university you possibly can get into. With your background, in your region, I'd suggest you look at: SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY Binghamton, Rutgers New Brunswick, Fordham, Yeshiva U, Drew University, SUNY Buffalo, and The College of New Jersey. With your cc GPA, you stand a shot at them, and those colleges are at the right level re: academics and rankings and etc. to allow you, if you do well there, to get into a top MBA or JD program. But on that list, focus most on Rutgers, SUNY Binghamton, Fordham, Yeshiva, and Stony Brook as your top choices, as they're the strongest of those I listed.
