It will be easier in some ways and harder in others. Harder first: since you're starting "on the wrong foot", you may find that certain courses that are required for your program will not be offered in the order you'd normally take them. This is generally a minor problem; you might (for example) wind up taking world history since 1715 before you take world history before 1715. Now, if you take a full load of classes over the summer in your first 2 years, you might catch up... Easier: because you're enrolling in the "off" semester, many of your courses won't be in great demand--and you may find yourself in smaller sized classes, which means more time that the faculty can devote to you individually. And some of the students in the classroom will have already taken the course, done poorly, and re-enrolled in it to improve their grades. These students will already know a lot, and might be good resources for study partners and so forth.
