College Help!!!!?
Hi everyone I am really nervous because I'm going to have to send in my college aps soon, and I was wondering what kind of college do you all think I could get into? Here are my creds: I have a 4.1 weighted GPA --> (I have taken 9 AP classes along with a bunch of honors classes - basically, I have taken THE HARDEST courses possible, resulting in both As and Bs) I got a 2300 on my SATs, 800 on my Math SATII, 780 on my Chem SATII, and a 740 on my Phys SATII. I took the HARDEST math course my school offers, and I am about 3 years ahead of my grade in math. I have strong extracariculars (Piano, Violin, Tennis) and I have 100+ community service hours. So, what do you think my chances are to get into one of these colleges? Princeton University California Institute of Technology Stanford University Massachusetts Inst. of Technology University of Pennsylvania University of Chicago Cornell University Carnegie Mellon University Georgetown University Thanks!

I think you have a good chance of getting into many excellent colleges. I'm sure you know that your list is among the most selective, and, therefore, difficult to get into. My daughter just started at Wellesley last year, also a tough one for admissions. She was valedictorian in a class of 320 and has not received anything but an A since the 5th grade; she also had excellent SAT scores but not as high as yours.. When she met her roommate, she soon learned that she too was valedictorian. It's a great environment as everyone is there to learn. One lesson we learned, but were lucky: Apply to 3 or 4 colleges and do have some "safeties." In your case safeties can still be very good schools. Our daughter only applied early decision at Wellesley. While she did get in, we realized in November that if she did not get in she would have to quickly complete several other applications. The other lesson we learned is that given the schools you are considering, there is a fair amount of discretion and just plain luck. Everyone who applies is so qualified that the sorting and selection process cannot be perfectly fair. The final thing, do visit ahead of time. Some of the most presitgious schools in the country had zero appeal to our daughter or to us when we actually visited. Good luck; I'm sure you will fare well.
