Is long beach state eventually going to swtich and become a UC school or will it remain as a Cal state school, since the school is so impacted now.

No, there are NO plans to add CSULB to the UC system. Just because a school is impacted does not qualify it for the University of California. Creating a new UC school involves many years of planning (it took more than a decade to get UC Merced started, and UC Riverside is in talks to get a med school -- it's won't start construction for at least another 5 years). UCs serve a different purpose from the CSUs. UCs are research-oriented institutions. CSUs are intended to offer practical university educations. In terms of graduate level study, UCs are more inclined to offer doctoral degrees (with the exception of top-shelf MBAs). CSUs offer a lot more masters programs and nursing programs. With that said, I'm a bit of a UC snob, but I think CSU Long Beach is a pretty good school. I've worked with a lot of public health and nursing grads from that school, and they are all quite good at their jobs.
