Can a community college transfer to an out-of-state college?

Asked by conniecatalina
I attend Valencia Community College in central Florida and I want to transfer to NYU after two years with an associate in arts degree to go to a Bachelor's Degree then a Masters.

It depends entirely on the receiving college, although most community colleges are regionally accredited, so generally the answer is "yes". You should write to NYU about their admissions and credit transfer policies, and ask for recommendations as to which courses you should be taking now. A letter to the head of the department in which you will carry your major asking for course recommendations wouldn't be a bad idea either. Make sure your letters look and sound professional. Spelling and punctuation count, and if you get a reply, be sure to send a "thank you" card.
