Georgia: GED and college?

Asked by ch33rbl0ndi3babe
Hi. I'm 19 and I'm currently taking ged classes. It's almost time for me to take the test. But I have higher goals. I wanna know is it possible to obtain a GED and go to a techincal college, then transfer into a university??? I want to go to Chattahoochee Technical College and then transfer into Kennesaw State or Georiga Southern Univ. So I am just wondering is it possible? Also any additional information is well appreciated! What test other than the GED do I have to take? Can I transfer from a tech college into a University in a year? What are college credits and hours? And how are they calculated? Can I apply for the hope scholarship? etc Thanks.

Hi i'm a student at Georgia Southern University it's a great school you should come. To answer your questions: You dont have to go to a technical college before attending a University. You can transfer in less than a year if you like. If you still want to go to Tech school your GED scores should be good enough. If you go straight to a University (skipping technical school) you would need to take the SAT or ACT test. Since your obtaining a GED I'm assuming you did not graduate high school the hope scholarship is for high school graduates that have a 3.0 grade point average. However after completing 30 semester hours at a university (or technical school) you would be eligible for hope, but you have to maintain a 3.0 gpa while in college (hard to do). Colleges calculate hours in two ways either by the semester system or quarter system. Georgia Southern (and Kennesaw) use the semester system. Each class is worth 3 semester hours (there are some that are worth less or more than 3, but you can look this up in the college catalog---ask for one at the admissions office). You need between 120 & 130 semester hours to receive a degree. Hope that answers some of your questions---if u need anything else e-mail me. I also have a few freinds that attend Kennesaw State.
