college question please help!?
i just finished my first year of college a few weeks ago and was completely overwhelmed. my first semester was a 3.0 gpa, but in my second semester, i failed 2 classes because of family issues and it brought my gpa down to a 2.2-2.4. i went to the University of Idaho. i'm trying to decide if going back to the college for the next year would be good, but if i do go back, i won't have any scholarships at all except for maybe about 500-1000. i had a few options: -go back for the full year with loans and retake the classes and try to do better from now on. -go part time and take the classes and maybe switch to full time later when i get a better footing. -i do have the option of transfering to a community college and go to school there instead, it is Lewis-Clark Community college. i just don't know what to do.... i was a great student in H.S. (3.9), but being alone 9 hours away in college must have gotten to me. please help... thanks!

Try again....stay there, retake the classes. You know what you have to do now. Many students get overwhelmed when they begin college. They discover that their high GPA from high school really doesn't translate to doing well in college (grade inflation is a horrible problem). Get a tutor, be strict with your time. If you transfer back to a CC you will feel like you have failed...give the university another try. If you don't bring your grades up after another semester, then re-think your game plan. You might talk to a counselor at school...improve your note taking, look at study habits, etc.....GOOD LUCK! (college prof)
