Help me pick the right Liberal Arts College in New England?

Asked by JohnnyB
I really love the idea of a top liberal arts college but dislike the idea of being stranded out in the middle of nowhere many hours from civilization. Let me know if you agree: Williams CollegeĀ (MA) This one is about 3 hours from Boston and NYC. Way too remote for me. Amherst CollegeĀ (MA) This one ain't too much better, still 2 hours to Boston and in a small town. Bowdoin College(ME) Over 2 hours to Boston and up in frigid Maine. No thanks. Wesleyan University(CT) Over 2 hours to NYC and 3 plus hours to Boston. In small boring town. Too isolated. Smith College(MA) In small town 7 miles from Amherst so same undesirable qualities as Amherst. Out in middle of nowhere. Colby College(ME) Same issues as Bowdoin. Bates College(ME) Same issues as Bowdoin except uglier city. College of the Holy Cross(MA) Less than hour to Boston or Providence. In New England's second largest city. On MBTA line to Boston, 10 trains/day URI is only 30 minutes from Providence, RI so I don't see it as being isolated in the same manner as these other schools.

Holy Cross is the only one in New England close to civilization.
