what steps do I take to get my teenager to college?
My son is a junior in high school . and he will be a senior next school year. I want him to go to a mainland college ( I'm in Hawaii) but I have no idea how to get these things started since I only went to comunity college. his grades are ok right now but he does want to go to college. he may want to stay here for school but I just want to know what steps do I need to do to sign him up and also , what about pre requisites? does he go to the mainland for that , or does he have to do that here first and then find a college over in the mainland? I need some guidance here :)

You should have him check this resource: www.collegeboard.com Depending on what he wants to do, he can fill out a wonderful questionaire that will allow him to search for colleges and universities that fit what he wants! He can find the appropriate major, school size, location, demographic, athletic opportunites, etc, etc. This is a great tool for getting started, anyway. From there he (with your help, perhaps) can gather additional information about a number of colleges. Any college or university you think you might like would be MORE than willing to send you several packets of information about everything they have to offer upon request (call them... email them). I would suggest, however, visiting a campus at least once before enrolling. Sometimes the pictures lie, and he does not want to be someplace where he won't be comfortable. So good luck and I hope that this helps!
