Information to help you achieve your educational goals

Transferring to University of Virginia or College of William & Mary?

Asked by clarix
I would really like to transfer to both. I am in community college right now and I would like to take advantage of one of those guaranteed-admissions agreements. You need a 3.4 for UVA and a 3.6 for W&M. I am leaning more towards W&M, as it is a smaller school. However, I am totally freaking out about that extra .2 gpa points to get in there. I have been a mostly mediocre student all throughout my compulsory education What do I do to achieve my dreams?

All you can really do is buckle down and study. If you really want it, you can do it. College classes are of course more difficult than high school, and you have to take charge of your education in college. If you don't understand something, make a point of going to see your professor during office hours or even stop by after class. This not only helps, but it lets them see that you are interested in the class and your education, and they remember that come time for final grades. Most schools also have some type of study counselors, tutoring office, etc. that you might want to check into. Everyone learns differently, and they may have some tips that can help you study, take tests, take better notes, etc. I went to William & Mary, and I have to say that if you are worried about a 3.6 at a community college, you are going to have to do something to get in gear. I transfered in with a 4.0, and I plummetted. Everyone does. They tell you that going in. The course work is rigourous, and the professors expect a lot. But it is worth it. You just have to work at it. I'm sure you can do it if you put your mind to it.
