I want to join an African-American sorority. How do I go about doing this when the chapter is not at my school

Asked by anduha_kid
I'm interested in joining a sorority however, the sorority that I want to join is not at my school. I understand that new chapters can be established with the written approval of the college or university. And that I should contact the National Headquarters office for further information. I also understand that you have to attend what is known as a RUSH to find out more information about the sorority and then be selected for admission to the sorority. What can I do to join a local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.? I'm in Takoma Park, Maryland on the campus of Columbia Union College. This college is a Seventh-day Adventist college and does not believe in supporting greek life. Thanks for reading my question and have a wonderful day.

If the college you are attending does not believe in supporting greek life, there is a good chance that the org. of your choice will not be allowed to charter a chapter at your college. You can always join a graduate chapter after you obtain your bachelors degree. This may be your only option at this point. You can always transfer to another college that has the org. of your choice on campus, but I wouldn't suggest this since you are not at college to join a greek org. Your first priority should be obtaining your education. It sounds like trying at the grad level is your only option at this point. If I were you, I would focus on keeping my grades up and graduate, focus on public service (if you are not already), and apply at the grad level. Good luck.
