Is it possible to transfer to a top university from a tier 3 or tier 4 school?
So I get out of pocket money and a full ride to attend this tier 4 university which is respected in the state I reside. Now my parents and guidance counselor are telling me that I should go to that university for my first two years, get a high GPA and then transfer to a better university. I am currently a high school senior who has also applied to Yale but I don't think I will be able to get in (1520 on SAT math and reading combined). So financially my parents and counselor say it will be the best option and my parents are telling me that they will pay for my final two years of college at whichever university I get into as a transfer student. I go to an extremely competitive specialized magnet school (advanced prep school) so good grades are tough to come by and most kids from my school go on to college and do outstanding there (3.8s and above). Here are the colleges I am looking to transfer into NYU Cornell Columbia (dream school) University of Pennsylvania University of Connecticut University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill University of Oregon University of Washington Ohio State (Columbus) Penn State (University Park) and University of Michigan Is it possible? The college I plan on attending is in the state I reside in and it is a state I hope I can get out of. So, any help is appreciated.

is the school in the same area you hate? some parts of ga are better than others, so you my want to check that out and factor it into your final decision. as for the question itself: i don't know for absolute certain, but i'm pretty sure you can transfer up, as long as you have done enough to prove yourself worthy of the school you want into. take a full course load and try to do some activities through the school. if you can start your own club/organizations or gain a leadership position, even better, and of course get a fabulous GPA. basically, you just have to show the school that you meet and exceed their standards. the fact that you went to a school that may not be respected outside of your state will make the possibility of transferring harder but not impossible. to be completely certain about any of it though, you should probably ask the school itself. send them an e-mail and ask about their transfer policy. if they do it, the probability of getting in, and any thing you should do to increase that probability. then you can be more sure of your options when you make your choice. this is something you should consider pretty carefully though. full rides are semi-hard to come by
