I go to Drexel University, and I know that the westphal college here is very prestigious and is a great school to be combined with the co-op program because youll graduate with 3 years of fashion job experience. They also have a fashion show every year that attracts some big names in the industry. The curriculum is VERY project intensive your freshman year, and you will spend many hours up late in the studio and doing various design projects. However, from what my design friends tell me, the work load gets easier as you get more into your specific majors. Also, the only good looking girls here are fashion design majors, so you pretty much have your pick of guys on campus if that interests you. Drexel is in Philadelphia...about an hour and a half from NYC. Many students get co-ops in NYC actually at fashion companies while enrolled here. Its in the University City section of west philadelphia, which isn't a great neighborhood, but the campus shares a border with University of Pennsylvania (A top ivy league school if you didn't know) and we're a few blocks from temple University, University of the Sciences of Philadelphia, and Phila. U. Drexel is on Trimesters, and if you choose to do the co-op program you will be in class for 2 semesters and then on co-op for 2 semesters...which means after your freshman year you pretty much are either working or in class year round. Its a very prestigious institution and carries a lot of weight due to the experience that Drexel students have when they graduate. However, its very expensive, and the curriculum isn't extremely flexible, so make sure fashion design is definitely what you want to do because the credits don't transfer easily.
