i need college advice - please!?

Asked by Confused about life
Ok - i am 21/female and just graduated from college i have my bs in history and ba in education - meaning i can teach high school history. anyway, i am from pittsburgh, pa and it is hard to find a teaching job here, plus i still want another certification, so i want to go back to school. I graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh This is my home town, however I would like to move to New York City and go to school there. Now to my question, I want to go back to school and now major in accounting. So, how does that work? Should it only take me about 2 years to complete because I already took all my udergraduate core classes? Or do I have to start all over. Second question, when applying to a college, do i apply as a graduate (even though it has nothing to do with my degree i have now) or do i apply as an undergraduate again. 3rd, if instead i decided to further my education degree, how would i apply - undergrad or grad? Last, know any good colleges in nyc? i think i am likeing berkeley college - is that hard to get into?

Welcome to the world of late choices :-) How much additional coursework you must complete will depend entirely on how many courses are accepted for transfer at your new school. Many will take everything and you might finish accounting in a year (depending on prerequisties), others will accept almost nothing and you'd wind up completing another 120 credits. When you apply to the college, you will indicate that you're a graduate on your application. You are not applying to graduate school in accounting, you're going for a second undergraduate degree. If you don't indicate that you're a graduate when you're asked, it will look fishy when you bring in the transcript for transfer evaluation and it says you have completed your bachelor's. For accounting, I think the quality of the college is moot--so long as it's accredited. Graduating from Duquense suggests that you might carry a burden of student debt--if that's the case, I'd go for the cheapest tuition rates I could find. In New York, that indicates a branch of CUNY or SUNY.
