PLEASE HELP ME WITH COLLEGE INFO. GEORGIA!?

Asked by ryle_style
I'm about to turn 18 years old. I dropped out of high school and have a GED. I'd like to attend a 4 year college and get a tleast a bachelors degree in Business Man/Admin, because i'd like to own my own business one day (and until then i'd like to work for another company) I live in GA, and i know that to go to most 4 year colleges (GA state, GA southern, KSU ETC..) i need to transfer from another school. What type of college will i have to go to to transfer from? does it have to be a 2 year tech school like chattahoochee? or could it be a 2 year community college like georgia highlands? and to get into a 2 year community college with a GED what do i have to do? take the sat/act? Can i get into a 2 yr community college with just a GED?

ryle: You can certainly apply to any of the Georgia state university system's 2-year colleges with your GED. All of those schools offer a special "track" for students who intend to transfer on to a 4-year school in order to complete their bachelor's degrees. The point of that track (which they call the Transfer Program) is to make sure that you have taken the right courses to qualify for admission to the 4-year school - in fact, they are the same courses that you would take in your first and second years at a university. You asked specifically about Georgia Highlands, so I've copied this from their website: "Freshman GED Applicants for Transfer Programs Freshman applicants within five years of their high school graduation date, or the graduation date of their appropriate age group, and those within that range who have not yet earned the equivalent of 30 semester hours of transferable college credit, who hold a GED must meet the following criteria: • GED, • High school transcript showing completion of any College Preparatory Curriculum courses taken prior to withdrawal from high school" That's all you need, and it sounds like you're able to provide that. You won't need to take the SAT or ACT. The school MAY require you to take placement exams to verify that you have the necessary fundamental skills to do college level work - if the exams point out any areas of weakness, the school will put you through some courses that are designed to brush up those skills. I hope that helps you - good luck to you!
