Georgia Southern university?

Asked by pensandoenti67
is it a good university? I am an army brat and have spent most of my life living around the world and am unfamiliar with what are the good universities in Georgia. Also, I have often experienced a lot of racism for being half mexican from both teachers and students throughout highschool and it is a new and unbearable experience for me. I find this offensive and am wondering are most colleges and universities such as georgia southern racist?

I went there years ago, and I had great teachers from all over. One thing I can say, though, is that there is a rather conservative mentality there. People may be very smiley, but are often very conservative/religious. I don't think you'd have problems on campus for being part Mexican, but if I could do it all over again I'd try to go to University of Georgia. Athens is a really cool town and has a more liberal and diverse population. If you're very religious, like Baptist or Methodist or Presbyterian, you might really like Statesboro. Lots of the students are in fraternities and sororities, which I didn't like. I worked for the radio station and had some fun friends into arts, foreign languages, travel, and theater. I also got involved in a church for a while, but when they started campaigning for Republicans, I quit going. Statesboro isn't far from Savannah, which is a pretty and historic city. But if you like an urban scene, the only place that comes near in Georgia is Atlanta, and a lot of Atlanta people go to school in Athens. As for racism, don't worry too much, but there are some ignorant people all over, especially about the issue of illegal immigration. Even though you're legal, some stupid people generalize and group all foreigners together. I don't think you'll have any major problems, though, since college towns, even Statesboro, have more open minded young people. Just get involved in something you like and you can make great friends and learn a lot. Good luck.
