I want to be a high school english literature teacher, and I would like to know which of these schools would be best. I have chosen these colleges based on location (I would like to stay in the west coast, preferably northern states) and whether or not they are certified for teaching degrees. Gonzaga University Seattle University University of Portland University of Puget Sound Western Washington University Whitworth University I realize that I should send my application to many schools but I just want to know which of the previous i should focus on more. So if you have an other suggestions, please do. Thank you for your time!

I currently attend Whitworth and love it. I'm not in the teaching program but I have friends who are and it sounds like a good program. Based on your list of schools you should also consider what kind of campus/community life you want. Spokane is smaller and drier than Seattle with more distinct seasons (aka lots of snow in the winter). Gonzaga is bigger and closer to downtown than Whitworth. Western is public while Whitworth and Gonzaga (and Seattle U?) are private. Having not attended any other universities, I can't really compare, but the Whitworth profs are largely amazing. The class sizes are good...there are only 3 that have more than 100 students and a handful of others more than 50. I'm an English major and most of my classes have less than 20 people, so there's a lot of individual attention from the prof, which is great. Since you're looking at teaching English lit, I'm guessing you'd be taking a lot of classes in that department...which is great. The English profs are incredibly knowledgeable and very helpful not only with classwork but also in helping you acheive your goals. If you have other questions specific to Whitworth, feel free to contact me. If you're applying for the 2008-2009 school year, you should probably send your application ASAP.
