How does the Haverford, Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr consortium work?
I'm actually asking this for my sister. She was just recently accepted to Bryn Mawr (wait listed at Haverford). Anyway, I wanted to know how the whole consortium works. Like are all linguistic classes offered at Swarthmore and all of, idk, dance offered at Bryn Mawr. Thanks a bazzillion. I'm just trying to help her pick the right college. Give as much detail as you can about how it works Thanks again. (the person who gives the best explanation gets the points)

I go to Bryn Mawr - the consortium with Haverford and Swat is really great and quite flexible. We also have a relationship with UPenn where you can take classes there, although fewer students do that. I think that you can take as many classes as you want at Haverford or Swat. You can choose to major at Haverford (even if we have the same dept at BMC). I know some students who did this because they liked the major/courses/requirements better at one college over the other. Anyone enrolled in one of the three colleges can take courses at any of the colleges. The system is completely integrated so it's easy to register for courses at any of the three colleges. Our course guide is done through a tri-college system: trico.haverford.edu will give you a sense of some of the courses. I grabbed this from the BMC website: While most academic fields are offered at both institutions, a number of disciplines are concentrated on one campus: at Bryn Mawr, those include archaeology, history of art, Russian, and arts programs in dance and theater; at Haverford, they include astronomy, fine arts, music and religion. In addition, a number of extracurricular activities, such as performing arts clubs, a weekly newspaper, an orchestra, social-action groups and some intramural sports operate jointly. There is a bus (aptly called the blue bus) that runs between BMC and HC all day, and a van that goes to Swat. You can get to Penn in about 20 or 30 minutes on the regional railroad, which is within walking distance of BMC. For more info visit: www.brynmawr.edu/character/bico_trico_penn.shtml Bryn Mawr is phenomenal for so many reasons, and I would be happy to talk more about it. Just email me if you are interested.
