Whats it like? my parents wont let me do a campus tour since I live in california and they dont want to spend the money. Hows the marketing program? do they offer graphic arts? And if I hate big cities will I still enjoy U of H if hawaii means the world to me?

I was in a similar situation. I transferred from Hawaii Pacific College to UH Manoa. The first thing I noticed - the campus is HUGE! Otherwise, the campus and its school system is much like what you may have seen in other California-based universities, such as UCLA and USC. However, Hawaii lacks the art museums and shows most big cities have, so don't expect to see that much outside of the campus. UH Manoa is also lacking in other areas, such as traditional college campus life - including fraternities and such. UH Manoa - just like all of Hawaii - is moderate-left politically, so it isn't as liberal as what you would see in many of the California schools. And last, Honolulu is actually not that big of a city, so people from smaller cities in the mainland will fit right in. Cost of living will be much higher in Honolulu. I would recommend you check out Craigslist and look through the housing ads, to get a feel as to what's available if you want to live off-campus. The graphic arts courses are great. A good friend of mine graduated from UH Manoa's School of Arts & Sciences, and between the time he entered the school and when he graduated, his technique improved ten-fold.
