How do I choose to attend between a Junior College or a University?

Asked by tayhawk24
I live in a town of about 3,000 people an hour away from Chicago. About 45 minutes away from me is a town called Joliet which is about 100,000 people and pretty close to Chicago. I can either attend Joliet Junior College, and I got accepted into University of Illinois at Chicago. I love the city and have gone there since my childhood and I would love it there, but nobody I know goes there and I'm from a small town I'm not sure I could make the jump. If I go to JJC i can be with a few of my best friends and get an apartment together and go to JJC for 2 years then transfer. I'm really torn on what I want to do. JJC is cheaper, closer to home, but I feel like it may hold me back. UIC seems like a really big step though and I'll only know how it turns out if I do it. Can any body help me or give me helpful advice? thank you so much

I agree with answerer #1. You will have a smoother transition to a community college vs. a large university during your freshman and sophomore years, and you will save lots of money. You will also get more one-on-one attention at JJC and that will translated into better grades! Make sure you meet regularly with your academic advisor to stay on track in terms graduating from U. of Illinois. I recommend you get their college catalog at the bookstore (in Chicago) and follow their requirements. Plan on getting your masters degree. It is well worth it and will give you much more opportunities and better salary. Best wishes.
