At Kapiolani Community College, where do you live since no dorms are available?

Asked by Candi H
I want to attend a community college in Hawaii to get my generals out of the way, and then transfer to UH- Manoa as a resident so it is cheaper. Where is affordable housing available near the community college?

Community colleges don't have housing. They are generally attended by locals who are pursuing a 2-year degree. You would have to find housing nearby on your own. I'm not sure what you consider "affordable," but living in Hawaii isn't cheap. If you are not a resident of Hawaii at this time, and you move there to go to community college, you will not have residency status when you apply to UH. That's not how residency works. When you relocate for the express purpose of pursuing education, residency is not granted, even if you have a state driver's license, a registered car, and work and pay taxes. You won't get a break on tuition. If you were to move to Hawaii and work full-time and live there for three years, THEN start school, you might get some consideration. But in the scenario you offer, residency would not be granted.
