I can't decide between going to Miami to Johnson & Wales University or staying here in my home state of New York and going to Marist College. I know that Marist is a better school, however my boyfriend is going to J&W and we would like to see our relationship go even further. I don't wanna end up going to Marist and wondering "What could have been?". At the same time I don't want my family and guidance counselor telling me that I should go to Marist because its best for me. I think I should take a risk and go to Miami. If things don't work out, I'll give Marist a try. I feel that I'm young and I have time to make mistakes. So should I got to Miami and see what happens?

That is a very difficult situation. Personally I would go to the better of the two institutions which in this case is Marist. If you were to follow your boyfriend to Florida to pursue a long term relationship, thats great but not likely. College is a relationship killer. I can name more then a dozen relationships that I have personally seen that have been utterly destroyed by the college atmosphere. The combination of constant socializing between the sexes and the flow of alcohol, and the sheer desire to be single in such a place has caused many couples to break up. Ask yourself this... Whats worse, going to Marist and maintaining a long distance relationship where you are together over breaks, summers, and visits or going to J&W and breaking up after a semester and being stuck in your second choice school with no real reason for being there? Whatever you decide, just remember, it is your decision. Dont let your family, friends, counselors, whomever get in the way of where you truly want to go. You are correct, you are young and have time to make mistakes but if if you can avoid them that is even better. Follow your heart and dont let anybody tell you that you "cant" or "shouldnt" do something.
