does uc riverside have a 'transfer dorm'?

Asked by cool_kirby77
i go to a community college right now. in hi school i was under the impression that everyone lives in a dorm all 4 years in a university. in 10th grade my english teacher spent an entire day (the whole class period) basically telling us that he thinks that everybody simply NEEDS to experience the dorm life, not that hes a bad teacher but he really wanted us to experience dorms in our life. well im 2nd year college now starting the fall (i go to a community college) and most of my friend's go to UC's. well my friend has an apartment (owned by UCR i guess) and i have some questions: is it REALLY uncommon for non-freshmen to live in a dorm? he told me dorms were only for freshmen and everyone else lives in apartments. how different are appartments social-and-cost-wise? im praying my fafsa (which i turned in late this year..) willl give me enough money to pay to live on campus at ucr. are apartments more expensive? and my real question is, for dorms in UCR specifically, are there 'transfer dorms' ? where you live in a dorm but its filled with people that transfered from community colleges, or juniors from another university? i sure hope so.. its not that this really matters much though but im curious. really i would just be so happy if my plans fall through. im hoping to get a TAG agreement with UCR in december, then ill apply right after and hopefully ill get accepted for winter 2010.

UCR has been growing very quickly over the past decade, and on-campus housing hasn't fully kept up. That's why they say that "on-campus housing is guaranteed for two years to all newly-admitted, single students who live in the Residence Halls for their entire first year and continue to meet all housing deadlines." UCR does have what they call the "Transfer Hall," which is a section of the Pentland Hills residence hall. So, that's pretty much what you're looking for. (There's only a little detail, but you can read about it at the first link below.) You should probably examine the calendar information at the second link below, and contact the Housing Services people if you have questions about what you can do to improve the chances of getting into the residence hall that you want. They can also tell you more about other campus-owned housing options. UCR Housing: (951) 827-6350 housinginfo@ucr.edu
