best public university/college in Pennsylvania?

Asked by Carolyn S
As a rising senior in PA, I'm looking at colleges and want a cheap option available to me. I'm top of my class, have great SAT and AP scores, and have a 4.0 GPA plus tons of extracurriculars. I'm interested in majoring in the sciences, possibly biology or pre-med. I know I don't want to go to Penn State (43,000 kids!!!) but I was wondering if anyone had any advice about other PA public universities I should consider...

The University of Pittsburgh is an excellent school, but if Penn State's large student body bothers you, I'm not sure if Pitt's student body would be much better. Temple University is also good. If you want to attend a public school, Penn State is in my opinion the best option. I think its large student body is a bad reason to dismiss it, especially if you intend on studying sciences. If you're willing to consider private schools in PA, then the University of Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon University, and Villanova are definitely worth considering.
