Do California State Universitys SHARE information with each other?

Asked by Karl P
I went to Cal Poly Pomona, and received poor poor grades there. I have since left the school and came back to a JC here in Santa Ana. I did not import my transcript because I was kind of ashamed of it, and here I am close to being able to transfer, and I want to go to Cal State Fullerton. My question is, unless I tell them, do the Cal States share personal student information with each other? I know you are supposed to transfer any college transcripts over, but I was hoping I could just avoid it. Is it possible? A response from someone who works in the Cal State System would be very helpful. Thanks for your time.

Of course the CSU system shares information. It is one school system. Were you receiving any kind of financial assistance at CSU Pomona? That record remains with the federal government. When you started at a JC, you were not required to transfer any of the grades since JCs accept everyone and you were not planning to graduate from there. You may be able to reset your GPA and start over if you transfer to a different university system such as a UC or a private university. Obviously, you can never go back and erase your academic record. I think you should work on repairing your grades by retaking some classes instead of trying to cover them up. Also you may have an easier time transferring to another university if you sign a TAG (transfer admission guarantee) agreement with your current JC if you don't plan on going back to Pomona. Ask the transfer center about it. If you do plan to go back to Pomona, you should talk to an advisor there.
