You can be a vet tech, vet assistant, or go all the way and go to college for vet school. The closest vet med school to you is Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona,CA..... the other vet med school is UC Davis. There are only two vet med schools in CA, but a number of vet tech schools in So Cal... it depends on what what you want to do. Either way, if you want to go to Vet med school, you would have to decide where you want to do your undergrad work, which shouldn't be a hard decision. You could go to Cal State Fullerton, since I think that's the closest university to you, or UC Irvine, or a JC for two years, then transfer. Most students who plan to go to med school major in Biology (or some form of biology) or Chemistry since the prerequisites for med school are already encompssed in those majors, but you can major in anything, as long as you meet the prerequisite requirements for vet med school. You also have to pass the VCAT entrance exam to vet med school. Follow this link, It'll give you general information about vet school admission requirements, but you would have to look at your schools of choice for program-specific information: careers.dyc.edu/guide/sec5/vet_school_prep.pdf
