Your 2007 income and tax forms for the 08-09 fafsa will still be used to determine fin aid for the Spring 09 semester if you choose to wait and enroll then.... so the EFC of 6,500 will still apply. (Also be aware this is not the amount you will have to pay for school). When you do your 2008 income tax return it will be used to calculate fin aid for the 2009-2010 school year. Yes, you can fill it out in January, but most folks don't have their W2 forms yet and cant file. It is best to do taxes early that year and then do the fafsa before Valentines day. I would not wait to start college. Simply because if you do wait that long there is no "guarantee" you'd qualify for the Pell with your 08 income. If you have to go to a cheaper school that first year or semester, that would be okay. Or you could choose to attend just part time to keep your costs down. Good luck, hope it helps.
