I am a native of Champaign-Urbana. I grew up here. I am a Junior at UIUC. Champaign is rather limited as far as the social scene. But it is inexpensive compared to, say, Chicago. A lot of people from Chicago send their kids here for school because it is cheaper. However, some kids actually like the bars here more than the bars in Chicago, from what I hear. The students, as far as I know, spend a lot of time studying, and many drink a lot of alcohol. There are lots of student organizations to join if you are interested.
